Gathering as the people of God

Gathering as the people of God

This past weekend we were in conversation about the importance about being present as the people of God.  It is important for us to be in intentional christian community.  It isn’t just the individual who misses out when we skip church, blow off small group or choose not to serve in missions.  Rather, the whole community misses out because it doesn’t benefit from the perspective and story of those who are not there.

Our primary scripture for this weekend was:

Hebrews 10:23-25 (NLT)
23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

We reflected that there are three things, among other things, that we talked about as benefits to part of community: Encouragement/strength, accountability and multiplication of ministry.

The question for you to reflect on today is:  When and how have you been blessed by your faith community?

We did miss you all Sharon, but i told the church that sunday morning I thought about staying in bed. Katie was away on a retreat, the girls were both sleeping so soundly and the bed was so warm and the house a little chilly. Not to mention I was really into felix baumgartner’s 23 mile high skydive. It was almost the perfect storm.

Oh right 24. I didn’t get to see it live. An episode of curious George won out while getting the girls down for a nap. But i have caught up since.
