We have been talking about #struggles for the past few weeks. Part of the conversation is the realization that technology is a great tool to help us connect with others in authentic ways. However we can also begin to put up walls or hide behind the internet and use this tool to bring others down.
This is often not the intention, but as we know hurting people hurt people and at times don’t even know they are doing it. So thanks to the author of the book we are basing this series off of, we have been given 10 commandments for social media. These guideslines help us use this tool of connection to spread joy instead of hurt.
Here are the commandments:
- Put God first in all you say and post.
- Love others as you want to be loved.
- Use social media to facilitate, not to replace, real relationships.
- Use social media instead of being controlled by it as an idol.
- Turn your virtual other cheek to posts that offend you.
- Do not post out of emotion.
- Always reflect Jesus, loving God whether online or off.
- Do not use social media to fuel temptations.
- Form your own opinions; do not follow the crowd.
- Do not base your identity on what people think.
