GPS: For the week of July 6, 2014

Weekly Reflectionsfor the week of July 6, 2014:

Strong leadership inspires us to profound action. God is calling out men and women to step up and act on God’s greater purpose in the world.

Monday – Read Judges 4

Several times in the book of Judges, we are told, “In those days there was no king in Israel and everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” In other words, there was no leadership and the people suffered from it. In spite of all of this, how did Deborah demonstrate great leadership?

Who are some leaders you admire?

What do all of these leaders have in common?

Tuesday – Read Proverbs 29

This chapter has a lot to say about many things, but what does it have to say about the importance of leadership?

What piece of wisdom from this proverb do you need to have more of in your own life?

Wednesday – Read 1 Timothy 3

In this chapter, Paul gives us a picture of what a leader in the church must look like. What are some of the character qualities that Paul mentions?

Why is it so important for a leader to exhibit these qualities?

Thursday – Read 1 Corinthians 12

We tend to think leadership is only for the select few, but how does this chapter challenge that way of thinking?

Why does God give each follower of Jesus certain gifts?

How does this change the way you understand your role in the “body”?

Friday – Read Proverbs 12

In many ways, Proverbs 12:26 serves as the main idea for the entire chapter. The people with whom we surround ourselves have such an impact on the people we become. What does this chapter have to say about the kind of people with whom we should connect ourselves?

Saturday – Read Philippians 1 and 4:10-23

The church in Philippi sent Paul much needed aid while he was in prison. Philippians 1:6 is a powerful statement of God’s faithfulness. In what ways was Paul reminded of God’s faithfulness through the faithfulness of this church?

How did Paul’s “partnership” with that church encourage him while he was in prison?

Whom do you have in your life that offers you this kind of encouragement?
