Base Camp is a place of refuge and offers a time to make a plan for the next step of the journey for those on expedition.  It offers some comforts you may not have when you are endeavoring to the summit, or trekking through thick jungle.  Base camp is a temporary home while you evaluate, prepare and then continue on the journey.

FaithPoint often uses the language of taking the next faithful steps to where God is calling you personally.  For the FaithPoint community the base camp image is perfect for thinking about our spiritual journey.  This this the stating place as well as a place to regroup and try something new.

As we journey together though our Base Camp teaching series, this page will begin to be populated with resources that will help you develop a holistic spiritual growth plan.  Weather you are just starting out, encountering faith questions for the first time, or you have been engaged in growing your walk with Jesus for years there is something more for you.  Our hope during this series is that you might develop a plan to grow your own faith.

Our goal is to have this be a place anyone can come and make a plan.  So if you are part of FaithPoint’s Urbana campus or FaithPoint online use this to help your personal growth.  If you stumbled on this page and don’t have a faith community, let us help you find one that connects with you.  If you are connected with a church and our spiritual pathway model looks like something you could make use of, please take any part you would like to use in your ministry or give us a shout and we can send you the original documents.

One of the most critical parts about making a spiritual growth plan is discernment. We do this on 2 very important levels, the personal and the corporate levels. As we move throughout the spiritual goals map in the coming sections we will see that there are personal and corporate levels to each of our 4 growth areas.
The personal: This is the discernment that happens between you and God. Taking all of the prayer time, scripture reading, your understanding of tradition, reason and experience you ask the question, “Where is God leading my next steps?”
The corporate happens with people you trust in your life, who want the best for you. At FaithPoint we encourage everyone to surround themselves with these trusted individuals through Life groups. These are the small ministry groups that come together to be more faithful followers of Jesus, and share life together. The United Methodist Church (FaithPoint’s denomination) was grounded early on through the use of Life Groups called class meetings. The founder of the Methodist movement John Wesley was insistent that you needed these groups to grow spiritually and so you could be encouraged to grow.  There have been a number of books and resources about this kind of meeting.  Below are a few that would be good to check out:

Glorifying God is one of the critical parts of remembering where our focus is to be directed.  It also allows us to stay mindful that the world is not all about us, but about something bigger than ourselves.  This something bigger is God.  We find our story wrapped up in this story of cosmic redemption that is all of creation.
