Reflecting on Psalm 139 (while waiting for my mom after church)
I love birthdays. I’ve had seven of them. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7
I just learned from my teacher that everybody I see walking around here also has a Birthday Zero. That’s your “Birth-Day” — the day you were born. (Mr C agreed when he came to move the chairs.)
David was a very important king in Bible times. He wrote a song about his Birthday Zero but it’s also about Birthday Zero for everybody. Here is David’s Happy Birthday Psalm that my teacher read with me: (v. 13 – 16)
“God, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me inside my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re awesome! (High five to God!)
Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, You know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was formed from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth. All the stages of my life were spread out before you, All the days of my life were prepared-before I even lived one day.”
(Before my Birthday Zero.)
My Aunt G is going to have a baby soon. I can’t wait to meet my new cousin and celebrate its Birth-Day. God knows that baby now even though it isn’t even born yet.
We’re kids but God knows us. God made us. God has plans for us.
God knows you. God made you. God has plans for you even if you’re grown up.
