Lent Devotion for March 23

Reflecting on Psalm 86:1-11
At an early age, I was pretty much “alone” and “scared” because my parents were divorced and I was shuffled from one to another. If it wasn’t for my grandmother, I probably wouldn’t have known the Lord. I would crawl up on my grandmother’s bed and she would read from the Bible to me. And, even at a young age, I listened and took it all in.
When I didn’t have her around anymore, I found that the only time I felt like I wasn’t alone and scared was when I turned to God in prayer. We would have simple talks and He provided me with a sense of right and wrong…Comfort when I was lonely…A connection to Him that helped me to feel safe from people and situations I felt threatened by.
I learned to talk to God everyday and I didn’t just ask for “things” like some people do, I felt so grateful for all the things He provided for me every day. When I was older and sick with cancer, I took Him at his word. I trusted Him…I obeyed Him, and I wasn’t scared of what I went through because of it.
Now that I’m a middle aged woman, I still talk to God every day. I never cease to praise His holy name and to ask forgiveness because I still make mistakes. I think about His power and the creation of this world and I am in awe. Someday, I hope to be in his Great House and walk by his side.

Do you have a relationship with God?
