Lent Devotion for March 22

Reflecting on Romans 5:1-11
Today’s scripture, Romans 5:1-11 talks about who we were and how God’s love worked for us;
In v6 says, ‘we were weak and ungodly’. It means God loved us before we knew God or God’s love. There had been God’s grace even before we were aware of it. This grace makes God’s grace/love great. We United Methodist Church calls it ‘Prevenient Grace’.
In v8 says, ‘we were sinners’. God hates sin but God loves us. That’s why God accepts us, pours out God’s love over us. God’s love covers multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8)
Verse 10 says, ‘we were enemies’. Some people have a question, ‘How can we love our enemies who killed our beloved one?’ God showed us the ultimate example. We killed God’s Son Jesus Christ but God loves us, God’s enemy. We were reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.

Please focus on those three words about us today; weak (ungodly), sinners, and enemies. And remember who we were and how God’s love, grace, and truth have worked to save us, to make us free, and to make us God’s family.
