GPS: For the week of July 7, 2013

Monday:  Read Exodus 15:20

What would you do after coming through the sea that God had just parted?  The people of God shouted and sang.  As you read today’s scripture/song, could you hear the excitement and praise?

  • What are you able to sing praises about today?
  • Write a song or poem (a haiku even) and share it.  Send it to pastor chris@faithpointum.org.

Tuesday: Read Exodus 15:22-27

The first place the Israelites went was a dud – the water was too bitter to drink. The second place was just right.  This was the place where God had led them.

  • Have you ever been in a place you thought was going to be perfect and then it turned out to be awful?
  • When we are forced to move on we are able to go on to better places.  When has this happened to you?  Where do you see God’s hand at work in your story?

Wednesday: Read Exodus 16

The people need food and God provides…something, some stuff.  The word manna literally means “what is it?” There is a great lesson in the way God provides for us, and how we are to trust and share.

  • What was to happen to those who would try and save some manna?
  • They had no choice but to share with the whole community rather than horde.  Where in your life to you need to have this kind of theology of abundance or understanding that God will come through?

Thursday: Read Exodus 17:1-7

First a pillar of fire, then the parting of the sea and food from the sky. Now, water from a rock! What’s next? A couple of camels bringing out the slip n’ slide?  This is really unbelievable!

  • When is the last time you have been truly blown away by something?
  • Remember that Jesus spoke of giving living water.  What is the difference between the water in our scripture and that which Jesus offers up?

Friday: Read Exodus 18:13

Moses is holding open court for all of the people of Israel.  He was the only one and the weight of the people was on his shoulders.

  • When have you felt like you were the only one who could do something that was too exhausting to sustain?
  • How have you dealt with it to avoid burnout?

Saturday: Read Exodus 18:14-27

Jethro gives Moses some great advice about delegating the responsibility.

  • Who in your life gives you wise counsel like Jethro to Moses? When is the last time you thanked them? This week give them a special thanks and be in prayer for them.
  • When Moses listens to the words of Jethro, others are able to use their gifts and Moses is about to do what he has been called to do. Where do you need to delegate so that you can better live into your call?
