GPS: For the week of June 23, 2013

Monday: Read Exodus 2:11-3:10

This is the same passage of scripture you read a couple of days ago about Moses, but today you hear the call God places on him to go! Put yourself in Moses’ shoes.

  • Take out a piece of paper and make 2 columns.  The first is labeled “Reasons to stay in Midian,” and the second is labeled, “Reasons to return to Egypt.” Now fill them in.
  • If you were Moses what would you decide?
  • Pray today that you might make God lead decisions.

Tuesday: Read Exodus 3:13-15

Moses is trying to wrap his head around what is happening.  He asked God to tell him who is sending him back to Egypt so that there would be some validity to his claim.  God’s answer is “I will be who I will be.” The person of God is steadfast and unchanging; the character of God is a mighty fortress.

  • What is gained in knowing the name of someone?
  • What difference does it make to know this self-revelation of the divine make?

Wednesday: Exodus 3:11-4:17

Moses is the king of excuses.  As you read you heard some really good ones.

  • In your bible highlight every excuse and then God’s response.
  • Would you have the kind of patience God does with Moses?
  • It would seem that our culture is quick to point out faults with the way things are done, but when asked for real solutions are hard pressed to come up with something.  What are some was that you could not only realize a speed bump, but also take steps to smooth them out.

Thursday: Read Exodus 5-6

For the next 3 days we are going to be reading the same 2 chapters of scripture but with a different focus.  Sometimes just one read or a singular focus doesn’t let us see all of the things that are happening in the scripture.  For the next few days we are going to uncover some of the layers at work.  We are going to be looking at the different conflicts and asking the same questions.

  • Today read the chapters with an eye to the struggle between Moses/Aaron and Pharaoh.
  • What are the positions of the parties involved?
  • How are the positions of the opposing party just/unjust in the eyes of the other?

Friday: Read Exodus 5-6

  • Today read the chapters with an eye to the struggle between Moses/Aaron and Pharaoh.
  • What are the positions of the parties involved?
  • How are the positions of the opposing party just/unjust in the eyes of the other?

Saturday: Read Exodus 5-6

  • Today read the chapters with an eye to the struggle between Moses/Aaron and Pharaoh.
  • What are the positions of the parties involved?
  • How are the positions of the opposing party just/unjust in the eyes of the other?
  • Finally, look at the past couple of days and reflect on what you see as the writer’s overarching theme or purpose in these 2 chapters.
