Weekly Reflections for the week of March 17, 2013: This week we take a look at the timeless teaching of Jesus through the power of parables.
Monday: The Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37 & Old Testament Promise that He would have his hands and feet nailed Psalm 22:16
- In what ways have you felt like the beaten man? When have you been the one who hurt someone else?
- Who is someone you can show mercy to this week?
Tuesday: The Great Banquet Luke 14:15-24 & Old Testament Promise that He would be crushed for our iniquity Isaiah 53:5-6
- What is the most important event you have been a part of? what excuses have you used to get out of things?
- God sent Jesus to invite us to the Great Banquet. How are you going to respond to this?
Wednesday: The Unmerciful Servant Matthew 18:21-35 & Old Testament Promise that He would suffer for the sin of others Psalm 69:4
- To whom do you have to say that you are sorry? Friends? Parents? Kids? What is keeping you from this?
- After reading the scripture how are our ability to forgive and the forgiveness we are shown linked? Because of this what changes might you have to make?
Thursday: The Workers in the Vineyard Matthew 20:1-16 & Old Testament Promise that He would be pierced for our transgressions Zachariah 12:10 & Isaiah 53:5
- When is a time you feel like you got short changed or someone got way more than they deserved?
- Is it hard for you to think that this was fair? Why or why not?
Friday: The Sower Matthew 13:1-23 & Old Testament Promise that He would have no bones broken Psalm 22:17 & Psalm 34:20
- Let’s face it, God might not make the best farmer. Spreading seed on the awful soil and rocks is just not a good idea. Where you you feel like you are planted right now?
- How might you grow stronger roots?
Saturday: The Lost (Prodigal) Son: Luke 15:11-32 & Old Testament Promise that his clothes would be gambled for Isaiah 53:8
- Read this story 3 times each time read from the perspective of either the older son, younger son or the father.
- How have you seen God’s actions in your life like the father?
