GPS: For the week of March 17, 2013

Weekly Reflections for the week of March 17, 2013: This week we take a look at the timeless teaching of Jesus through the power of parables.

Monday:  The Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37 & Old Testament Promise that He would have his hands and feet nailed Psalm 22:16

  • In what ways have you felt like the beaten man?  When have you been the one who hurt someone else?
  • Who is someone you can show mercy to this week?

Tuesday: The Great Banquet Luke 14:15-24 & Old Testament Promise that He would be crushed for our iniquity Isaiah 53:5-6

  • What is the most important event you have been a part of?  what excuses have you used to get out of things?
  • God sent Jesus to invite us to the Great Banquet. How are you going to respond to this?

Wednesday: The Unmerciful Servant  Matthew 18:21-35 & Old Testament Promise that He would suffer for the sin of others Psalm 69:4

  • To whom do you have to say that you are sorry? Friends? Parents? Kids? What is keeping you from this?
  • After reading the scripture how are our ability to forgive and the forgiveness we are shown linked?  Because of this what changes might you have to make?

Thursday: The Workers in the Vineyard Matthew 20:1-16 & Old Testament Promise that He would be pierced for our transgressions Zachariah 12:10 & Isaiah 53:5

  • When is a time you feel like you got short changed or someone got way more than they deserved?
  • Is it hard for you to think that this was fair? Why or why not?

Friday: The Sower Matthew 13:1-23 & Old Testament Promise that He would have no bones broken Psalm 22:17 & Psalm 34:20

  • Let’s face it, God might not make the best farmer.  Spreading seed on the awful soil and rocks is just not a good idea.  Where you you feel like you are planted right now?
  • How might you grow stronger roots?

Saturday: The Lost (Prodigal) Son:           Luke 15:11-32 & Old Testament Promise that his clothes would be gambled for Isaiah 53:8

  • Read this story 3 times each time read from the perspective of either the older son, younger son or the father.
  • How have you seen God’s actions in your life like the father?
