Lent Devotion for April 1

Reflecting on John 6:60-71
65: And He said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.”

I had surgery coming up and had a lot of anxiety and was very fearful – almost to the point of calling the doctor and cancelling the surgery. I wanted to pray about it and read the Bible that I carried in Viet Nam. I could not find my small Bible but found a pocket version of the Book of John. I thought I had given my life over to Jesus long ago as a child and again as an older man but not at all as I found out.  I am not ashamed of this testimony of the Lord Jesus for in Him, there is great power and love. This is what I prayed that changed me:

“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and that you gave your life for my sins.  I ask you to come into my heart, mind, and spirit and to be with me always now and forever. Amen.”

It was as if a door opened and I was let in and was a new man – fully trusting in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I was without any fear whatsoever. I know Jesus was with me through my four and a half hour surgery and I trust Him to be with me always.

Can you say with confidence that you have allowed Jesus to be in your life?
