Lent Devotion for March 13

Reflecting on John 4:27-42

In this together

In those rare moments when I’m out in the world alone, at the grocery store, at the coffee shop or in some other crowded but solitary place, I often find myself overwhelmed by the diversity of humanity and God’s immense love for each and every one of us.  Jesus shows us time and time again the value of the overlooked among us, and the part we are called to play in bringing about the fullness of God’s kingdom.  In this passage from John, Jesus talks about how we are called to be both the sowers and the reapers in the fields — the planters and the gatherers, each doing different work but rejoicing in the harvest together.  Everyone has value, a place and a purpose in God’s economy.
Who are the overlooked in your life?  The ones with whom you are resistant to work and share in the harvest?
What obstacles are in the way for you to fully participate with them in kingdom work?
Are you in a season of sowing, or reaping?
