GPS: For the week of August 3, 2014

Weekly Reflections for the week of August 3, 2014:
Deep down inside all of us is the desire to live lives of purpose and adventure, yet experience proves that good intentions alone do not great stories make. To ignite our stories, we must embrace change, incite an incident and sustain the action.

Monday -Read Genesis 6:9-7:5
In what ways did Noah embrace change?
Why is change so hard for us to deal with?
What would have happened if Noah didn’t build the ark?
What sort of change are you experiencing in your own life right now?
What sort of change do you need to perhaps introduce to your life?

Tuesday-Read 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Really focus on verse 17. The verb tense is telling us that we are constantly being made into a new creation. This isn’t a “one and done” kind of thing, but something that is happening all the time. How should this verse change the way we approach change in our lives?

Wednesday-Read Ephesians 4:20-5:20
This passage tells us that in order to live as our “true selves” we must not only stop certain destructive behaviors, but we must also adopt new life-giving behaviors. What are some of the specific examples this passage gives us of this forward moving pursuit of life in Christ?
What are some destructive behaviors in your life that need to stop?
What is the opposite life-giving behavior you need to adopt?

Thursday-Read Psalm 27
What does this Psalm teach us about perseverance and sustaining the action?
What does it mean to “wait on the Lord”?
Is that an active waiting or a passive waiting?
Explain. Make this your prayer today.

Friday-Read Isaiah 40
What comfort does this passage have to offer people who are in the midst of adversity?
What comfort does it bring you specifically?
What about God does this passage say is to be the source of our comfort?

Saturday-Read Hebrews 11
What are some of the various ways these heroes demonstrated faith?
Spend some time playing the “What if?” game. Think about your ambitions—what you want and what you stand for. What are some specific action steps you can take in order to get your story started and see these ambitions become a reality?
