GPS: For the week of July 20, 2014

Weekly Reflections for the week of July 20, 2014:

This week in worship we talked about the way we are called to be faithful to the call places on our lives even when we think that we are not equipped.  Our hero timothy and his mentor Paul teach us that God will enable you for the things that you need to do.

Monday: Read 1 Timothy 4:8-16

What are some of the excuses you make for not being a hero of faith?  Why do you make these excuses? Is there an underlying reason you settle for less than what you could be?

Tuesday: Read 1 Timothy 5:1-16

This passage is all about caring for God’s family.  There are instructions on resolving conflict, getting to know the story and circumstances before judging, and taking care of those who cannot care for themselves.

In what ways are you reflecting this kind of care for others? In what areas do you need to work on your care? Do you disagree with any part of this code of conduct?

Wednesday: Read 1 timothy 2:8-15, 6:1-2

These two passages of scripture are two that color many people’s understanding of followers of Jesus.  Issues of slavery and the role of women are critical issues.  How are we to read these tough passages today?  (share your thoughts on confronting challenging passages with Pastor Chris Chris@faithpointum.org or 301-639-9583)

Thursday:  Read 1 Timothy 6:20-21

As this book ends we are called to protect the tradition that has been passed down to us.  In what ways are you protecting the tradition?  In what ways are you passing the tradition down to the next generation?

Friday:  Read 2 Timothy 1:8-18

Here we see that Paul is mentoring Timothy in not being ashamed of the Good News.  There is also an undertone that there are going to be people that reject the teachings of Jesus.  When have you avoided about talking about your faith?  How have you become familiar with the kind of failure or rejection that Paul writes about?  I what ways can you share your faith this week with a friend or neighbor?

Saturday: read 2 Timothy 4:1-8

Read this passage as if paul was writing to you.  What is your next step in living out this commission?
