Reflecting on Psalm 78: 1-39
I lay awake in the morning and look out my bedroom window before I ever get out of bed. I have done this for years, I never know what I may see. I once saw a hummingbird flying near my window. Today I saw a beautify sky change from silver to pink. I don’t know whether I am talking to God or God is talking to me, or even if it matters.
The first thought that came into my mind when I read this Psalm was the song “Teach Your Children Well”. It is easy to turn to God in times of stress, and God will be there for us. But we need to teach our children that God is there for us always. God is there with us during our best times, during happiness and peace, and it is often too easy to forget He is there.
Children watch us more than they listen to us. Whether we are teaching our children love and peace by enjoying nature, empathy by handing a homeless person change, or sharing of ourselves by volunteering our talents, our children will learn to be like us, for good or bad. They will carry on God’s message, if we show our children how it is done.
